DJ Semtex, one of the most iconic DJs on BBC Radio 1, has left the network he spent 15 years on for a new position at Capital XTRA.

Semtex tweeted confirming the news and announcing that his new show will be every Friday night at 9 p.m. In a Facebook post, Semtex discussed his excitement and provided some details on his upcoming program.

"It is an honour to be on Capital XTRA alongside legends, and some of the hottest emerging DJs," he wrote. "Every Friday night from 9 to 11 p.m. I will be relentlessly shutting down the airwaves, and bringing you the greatest world class hip-hop show of life."

This makes for two recent high-profile BBC Radio 1 departures, as Charlie Sloth revealed that he would be leaving the network for Apple Music's Beats 1.

BBC announced that Kenny Allstar would be taking over Semtex's Friday evening slot.

In addition to his work as a DJ, Semtex also penned Hip Hop Raised Me, a book about rap's cultural impact, in 2016.
