Former Columbia GM Joel Klaiman Named President of Hitco Entertainment
Joel Klaiman, who most recently served as executive vp/general manager of Columbia Records, has been named president of Hitco Entertainment, the new record/entertainment company launched this year by L.A. Reid and Charles Goldstuck.
Klaiman, who parted ways with Columbia in August after six years with the label, will be based in New York. In his previous role, he had run the label's marketing, digital marketing, promotion, publicity, branding, sync licensing, video production and content development departments.
"L.A. and Charles have created a forward-thinking company to develop and produce music-focused projects for distribution across all platforms," Klaiman said in a statement. "I am excited for this new role as we work together to realize Hitco’s goal of creating great music and helping artists rise to new heights of success."
Hitco, which Billboard first reported last August would incorporate a record label and publishing wing, is Reid's first gig in the music business since his exit from Epic Records last May amid allegations of sexual harassment made by a female staffer. Since then, Reid and Goldstuck have signed artists such as Big Boi, Dinah Jane of Fifth Harmony and SAINT JHN, and brought on Kirdis Postelle to run the company.
"Joel is an experienced, world class executive who has mastered all facets of the music business,” Reid and Goldstuck said in a statement. “With Joel joining our leadership team, we are now well poised to take the next step in our growth cycle. We’re excited that he will help drive our efforts as we move toward building a world class music enterprise.”
