With the news today (Sept. 14) that Jon Platt would be exiting his role as chairman/CEO of Warner/Chappell Music Publishing before the end of the year, Warner Music Group CEO Stephen Cooper issued a statement thanking Platt for his work during his tenure at the company and recognizing his accomplishments. Cooper's memo, which was obtained by Billboard, can be read in full below.

Hi everyone,

As some of you have heard from Jon Platt, he will be leaving Warner/Chappell before the end of this calendar year. An announcement will be made in due course about where he’s headed.

I know that many of you, like me, will be sorry to see Jon go. He’s one of the industry’s finest -- principled, driven, and compassionate. Warner/Chappell is a very different company than the one he joined in 2012, and he leaves it well positioned for continued growth and change. Our songwriters’ success in shaping the hits of today and the sounds of tomorrow is attracting a wealth of creative talent at all stages of their careers. At the same time, our outstanding global team is growing its reputation for always backing our songwriters with integrity and ambition.

While we identify a new CEO, Jon will work with COO Carianne Marshall and the senior management team to ensure a smooth transition. With the Warner/Chappell U.S. team’s upcoming move to our new LA HQ, we have a great opportunity to build on our strong momentum.

Just last week, Warner/Chappell was recognized as NMPA’s No.1 Gold & Platinum Honoree for July 2018. Also, earlier this month, we launched an exciting department called Creative Services. Led by Carianne, the new team will be responsible for identifying fresh ways to super-serve our songwriters. At the same time, we continue to expand our A&R activity, evolve our songwriter portal, and develop our expertise around the world. This is all part of our belief that the future of our company goes hand-in-hand with the careers of our songwriters, our artists, and our people.

On October 11, Jon is being honored at City of Hope’s Spirit of Life Gala, which will be the perfect opportunity to celebrate his accomplishments. In the meantime, please join me in thanking him for all he’s done and achieved here. On a personal level, I’ve enjoyed being part of Jon’s journey and I wish him the very best.
