Sony Music & Warner Music Refresh UK Management Teams: Stacey Tang at RCA & Katie White at Atlantic
Two of the U.K.'s leading major-owned imprints have reshuffled their management teams as competition for the ever-growing global streaming audience hots up.
At Sony, Stacey Tang has been appointed managing director if RCA UK, replacing Neil Hughes who has left the company. Tang joins RCA from Sony U.K. sister label Columbia, where she held the post of co-MD alongside Manish Arora and helped double the label's share of the domestic albums market.
Notable campaigns that Tang oversaw included the successful launch of Brit Award-winning singer Rag'n'Bone Man, whose debut album Human achieved triple-platinum status in the U.K. and has sold more than three million albums globally, according to Sony. She also played a key role in steering George Ezra to the top of the charts with the singer-songwriter's second consecutive No. 1 album, Staying At Tamara's, the best-selling new artist release of the year so far.
Other campaigns that Tang has worked on include releases by Mark Ronson, Arcade Fire, A$AP Rocky, Harry Styles and Calvin Harris, who recently enjoyed his longest ever run at the top of the U.K. singles chart with "One Kiss," featuring Dua Lip-a -- the DJ's sixth domestic number one.
"Stacey is one of the most respected and creative executives in the business," said RCA UK and Ministry Of Sound Recordings president David Dollimore in a statement announcing her appointment.
"She has delivered time and again with both domestic and international artists and her business acumen and leadership skills will make RCA the ideal home for exceptional artists," said Dollimore, praising the exec's "love of great music, passion for artist development and steely determination." Dollimore also thanked departing MD Neil Hughes "for his hard work and contribution" and wished him continued success in the future.
"I am looking forward to joining the team at RCA, and working with them to deliver an exciting roster and the future-facing label David has a vision for," said Tang, who joined Columbia in 2012 from Atlantic's U.K. team. Following her switch to RCA, Manish Arora takes up the role of sole managing director at Columbia U.K.
Meanwhile, over at Warner, Katie White has been named general manager of Atlantic Records U.K., home to Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, Clean Bandit and Jess Glynne.
Reporting to label president Ben Cook, White joins Atlantic from Vice Media, where she most recently held the post of managing director of magazine brand i-D. Her résumé also includes roles as executive strategy director at Vice and senior positions at a number of digital agencies in London, including two years as head of brands at the Sean Parker co-founded digital content marketing company TheAudience, which was acquired by Dubai-based Al Ahli Holding Group in 2015.
"As the world gets ever more fragmented, and media, brands and content all vie for people's attention, it's imperative our artists are even more impactful - not only in creating and sharing fantastic music, but also in delivering original and captivating narratives," announced Atlantic U.K. president Ben Cook, describing White's appointment as a "strategic move" and a "fundamental asset to the team."
"At Atlantic, we have an impressive and diverse roster - from emerging talent to global megastars -- and we're passionate and hungry to find new artists and break even more great music," he stated. "Katie's strong, strategic mind, her creative insights and her experience in keeping some of the biggest brands at the forefront of people's attention will bring another powerful dimension to us achieving this."
"For someone who is absolutely passionate about music as well as exciting, compelling story-telling, I couldn't be joining a better band of properly talented people and brilliant artists, all doing what they believe in," added White, who said her first label role "feels like a marriage of everything I've been doing over the last 10 years."
