The T.J. Martell Foundation announced on Thursday (Aug. 30) that Melissa Goodwin will assume to the role of executive vp and general manager of the organization. Goodwin will oversee all office operations, such as finance, human resources and staff, with consultants reporting directly to her.

Goodwin has spent the past 14 years with the T.J. Martell Foundation and served most recently as the senior vp of operations and human resources. Prior to that role, she was national director of administration and human resources. She'll continue to report to foundation CEO Laura Heatherly and will remain based in Nashville.

“I have the privilege of working with an incredible group of people who are on the team at the T.J. Martell Foundation," Goodwin said in a statement. "I look forward to always pursuing the standard of excellence Tony Martell set forth when he founded the Foundation as a way to honor his son. I am honored at the trust the Foundation has put in me and look forward to elevating the awareness of the organization -- music’s promise for a cure.”

The T.J. Martell Foundation formed in 1975 when music industry executive Tony Martell’s son passed away from leukemia at the age of 21. Since then, the foundation has committed itself to funding unique and innovative medical research that is designed to find treatments and cures for cancer and AIDS.

“Melissa’s leadership skills are exceptional, and with her extensive knowledge of our offices, events, and donors, I’m confident the T.J. Martell Foundation is well-positioned to continue our outstanding growth and development,” Heatherly added in a statement.

On Oct. 15, the foundation will host its 43rd annual New York Honors gala, where Universal Music Group general counsel/executive vp business and legal affairs Jeffrey Harleston and Myriad Restaurant Group founder Drew Nieporent will be honored.
