Island Promotes Eric Wong to Chief Operating Officer
Island Records has promoted longtime executive Eric Wong to chief operating officer for the UMG label. Island president Darcus Beese called Wong "truly deserving" of the post, adding, "He brings a world of experience to every endeavor and has nurtured strong relationships with our artists and their management teams."
Wong has served as executive vp/general manager at the label since 2014, overseeing operations during numerous album rollouts for artists including Shawn Mendes, Fall Out Boy, Demi Lovato, Nick Jonas, the Killers and Mike Posner, among others. Prior to that, Wong spent three years as evp, marketing at the former Island Def Jam Music Group (IDJ).
He first joined the IDJ family in 1999, working on marketing campaigns for the label's roster, before decamping in 2006 for dual positions at Sean Combs' Bad Boy Entertainment (chief marketing officer) and WMG's Atlantic Records (svp, marketing). Before returning to IDJ in 2011, Wong founded Wong Management, working with a roster that included Mariah Carey.
"I am extremely proud of the confidence that Darcus Beese has shown in me," said Wong. "Island has been my heart and home for the better part of two decades now, and I am excited to step into this role keeping the label and its artists at the forefront."
