BMG's BBR Music Group Absorbs Red Bow as Part Of Nashville Restructuring

As part of an ongoing restructuring of its Nashville operations, BMG’s BBR Music Group has absorbed its Red Bow Records imprint into its other three labels.

Five BBR staffers have been let go in the restructuring, with a broader staff restructuring to come, possibly later this week, according to sources.

BBR Music Group, which BMG purchased for more than $100 million in January 2017, now comprises Broken Bow Records, Wheelhouse Records and Stoney Creek Records. Red Bow was established in 2012 as a joint venture between BBR and Sony Music’s now-shuttered RED Distribution. Red Bow’s artist roster, which includes Craig Campbell, Joe Nichols and Chase Bryant, is being evaluated, according to sources. In the meantime, Wheelhouse’s promotion staff will work Campbell’s current single, “See You Try,” which is No. 45 this week on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart.

The change comes as construction continues on BMG’s new office building on Nashville’s Music Row, which will house BMG Nashville’s publishing operation, led by Kos Weaver, and BBR Music Group. It is expected to open in early 2019.

“Nashville is at the core of our plan to grow BMG in North America. In two short years, we have gone from just under 20 people dedicated to publishing to nearly 100 staffers evenly split across publishing and recordings,” said Zach Katz, president of repertoire & marketing for BMG US. “We are investing heavily in the market and are committed to championing our songwriters and artists inside and outside of Nashville.”

According to BMG, its Nashville publishing operation has seen a 10 percent increase in market share in the past year. Additionally, Broken Bow flagship artist Jason Aldean’s current album, Rearview Town, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 all-genre album chart in April, the first country album of 2018 to do so. Jon Loba, EVP of BBR Music Group, said, “2018 is proving to be a very strong year for the company. The restructuring of our team allows us to focus and allocate the resources in order to achieve the results we are targeting and continue developing the opportunities and growth of our artist’s careers both in the US and internationally.”
