Good Charlotte Signs to BMG For Worldwide Album Release: Exclusive
Good Charlotte has signed a worldwide deal with BMG to release the rock group’s new studio album later this year.
The untitled project will be the second record run through Good Charlotte’s MDDN imprint following 2016’s Youth Authority, which was the group’s first album following a five-year hiatus.
“We feel our partnership with BMG is a natural one, as we’ve been fortunate enough to see first hand their commitment to the artists they’re in business with,” said Good Charlotte founders/brothers Benji and Joel Madden. “As the momentum for Good Charlotte continues to build in this new chapter of our career, BMG has consistently demonstrated the type of forward thinking, artist friendly, entrepreneurial spirit that we really relate to and is in line with the way we want our business to feel.”
Good Charlotte, whose hits include “The Anthem,” "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” and “I Just Wanna Live,” has been teasing an announcement of some sort via its Instagram by posting covers of classic ‘90s albums, including Garth Brooks’ Ropin’ The Wind, Celine Dion’s Let’s Talk About Love, and Fugees' The Score with an image of a ghost face superimposed over the original artists’ faces.
Yesterday, the ghost image flashed in an Instagram post of its own, accompanied by the sounds of a heartbeat and the date 5/25/18.
Good Charlotte has sold more than 11 million albums worldwide, according to BMG. In the U.S., 2002’s The Young and The Hopeless remains the quintet’s best selling album at 3.5 million units, according to Nielsen Music. Youth Authority, which Good Charlotte released through Kobalt Music Group, debuted and peaked at No. 23 on the Billboard 200, reaching No. 4 on the Top Rock Albums chart. It has sold 30,000 units in the U.S.
“BMG thrives on creating authentic partnerships with artists and working alongside Good Charlotte and MDDN is a perfect fit,” said Tom “Grover” Biery, EVP Recorded Music, BMG U.S. “Benji and Joel have an exciting vision for the group and their new music, and we look forward to helping them fulfill that vision – sharing it with fans worldwide.”
