BMG has named veteran music industry executive Monti Olson as co-head of A&R, frontline publishing, for its U.S. operation.

Olson will partner with fellow A&R co-head Shani Gonzales to lead BMG’s Los Angeles and New York creative teams, reporting to Thomas Scherer, BMG's executive vp frontline publishing, U.S. Gonzales is gaining an additional role as co-head of writer services in the U.K., working alongside A&R Director Hugo Turquet to build opportunities for U.K.-based writers in the U.S.

Olson joins BMG from Warner Bros. Records, where he was senior vp A&R. He has also previously served as executive vp/managing director of worldwide music publishing at Global Entertainment, as well as executive vp/head of pop & rock music, creative, at Universal Music Publishing Group. He replaces Andrew Gould, who moved to Downtown Music Publishing in April.

Gonzales has been BMG's co-head of A&R in the U.S. since 2016, and has overseen some of BMG’s top songwriter clients including Poo Bear, DJ Khaled, Bibi Bourelly, Nate Cyphert and Nic Nac. She has played a key role in BMG’s current success in U.S. publishing. Last week, BMG artists and songwriters topped 22 of Billboard’s charts.

“Monti is the perfect complement to Shani and BMG,” said Scherer in a statement. “He brings an incredible track record and experience to the team which will also give Shani the space for her additional role. The ability to bring together talented writers from wherever they come is a key part of the BMG approach. Shani will be at the center of our plan to bring together writers from the world’s two most globally influential music markets.”
