Genius and YouTube Partner for 'Song Stories' Feature

Genius

The behind-the-scenes experience aims to bring fans deeper into the music.

Genius and YouTube have joined to launch Song Stories, an audiovisual, interactive experience for fans to interact more deeply with music by their favorite artists. The experimental product expands on the Genius experience of giving fans an inside look at lyric development by adding popups featuring such elements as behind-the-music info, Genius artist interviews and YouTube content.

"A song is so much more than an audio file. We’re constantly working to deliver users interesting and delightful information to make the music experience richer," said Ilan Zechory, Genius co-founder and president. "Genius and YouTube, the two biggest sources of musical deep cuts and rabbit holes on the planet, are natural collaborators on this mission."

Song Stories will combine already established Genius series, including VerifiedDeconstructed and Framework, along with such YouTube content as concert footage, music video clips and thematic playlists to provide listeners with more context for the song or artist.

The company has launched a gallery page where users can access all available Song Stories. So far, featured tracks include Camila Cabello's "Havana," Cardi B's "Bartier Cardi" and Drake's "God's Plan," among others.

“At YouTube we’re working every day to push the envelope and find new ways to enhance the overall music experience by better connecting artists and fans,“ said Lyor Cohen, global head of music at YouTube. "This project with Genius provides a more immersive way to explore music -- it’s the perfect example of innovating in pursuit of this goal.”
