Amazon Music Hires Ex-WBR President Dan McCarroll as Global Head of Originals, Artist Relations
Dan McCarroll, former president and head of A&R for Warner Bros. Records, has joined Amazon Music as global head of originals and artist relations. In his new role, McCarroll will work with his teams alongside artists, managers and labels to create ways to "elevate" new and catalog releases through original programming.
"Dan is joining the Amazon Music team with an incredibly valuable artist's perspective," said Alex Luke, Global Head of Programming and Content Strategy. "As we continue to work closely with labels and artists to deliver music in new ways, Dan is bringing decades of experience both as a former musician, and a respected industry executive to our team. Amazon Music will continue to experiment and change the way customers interact with music through voice, and there’s no one more qualified than Dan to build upon our existing global offerings."
McCarroll left Warner Bros. in July 2017 after three-plus years as a senior executive of the storied label. Then-chairman/CEO Cameron Strang, who stepped down at the end of 2017 as part of a leadership shakeup brought on by Warner Music head of recorded music Max Lousada, praised McCarroll as "integral in evolving our A&R activity."
Before joining WBR in late 2013, McCarroll was president of Capitol Records where he worked on projects by Elton John, Katy Perry, Capital Cities and Ryan Adams, among others. Prior to his role at Capitol, McCarroll was evp, North American creative at EMI Music Publishing. He's also a former session drummer who can be heard on Sheryl Crow's The Globe Sessions, Aimee Mann's Magnolia soundtrack and Rhett Miller's The Instigator, among others records.
"This is an exciting time to join Amazon Music," said McCarroll, who'll report directly to Luke. "In a relatively short while, Amazon Music has grown exponentially while continuing to innovate on behalf of their customers. I’m looking forward to joining this impressive, passionate team as we continue to work with the creative community to deliver the absolute best music experience."
