Head of WMG's Playlist Brand Topsify and Streaming Label Leaves Company

Kieron Donoghue, vp of global playlists strategy at Warner Music, who created the label group's playlist brand Topsify and earlier this year launched streaming label Artists to Watch, has announced his exit from the company. Donoghue joined WMG in 2014 when Warner's distribution and services arm WEA purchased his startup, Playlists.net, for an undisclosed sum and renamed it.

Each major label owns a branded property that curates playlists for streaming services. In addition to WMG's Topsify, UMG launched Digster in 2011 and Sony Music's Filtr was started in 2012.

"Establishing Topsify as Warner’s playlist brand globally across all platforms and establishing a streaming strategy for a major record company has been challenging at times but immensely rewarding," Donoghue said in a post on Facebook. "I'm also especially proud of the innovation around the Artists To Watch Records label that has generated over 50 million Spotify streams with zero budget."

Donoghue said his next step will be to launch his own venture, adding "3 years in a corporate was great but I have that entrepreneurial itch to scratch."
