BB4

95

DAVID ISRAELITE, 48

President/CEO, National Music Publishers' Association

CARY SHERMAN, 68

Chairman/CEO, RIAA

Last Year's Rank: 100

In 2016, the RIAA united creators around the "value gap" -- the idea that the "safe harbors" of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act help services like YouTube pay less for music than their competitors. Meanwhile, the NMPA reached a $30 million landmark settlement with Spotify over mechanical royalties owed on songs that the service couldn't identify. Israelite, who already is negotiating with Spotify's rivals over the same issue, promises it is "the first of many to follow."

How Trump will affect the industry: Sherman: "Positively: He and his people believe in property rights and the value of intellectual property."
