Social video app musical.ly is partnering with MTV to give fans a new way to determine the summer’s top song. "Musers" are being encouraged to create custom videos using nominees for song of summer at this weekend’s MTV Video Music Awards. Each video submission will act as a vote in the category, which includes tracks by Calvin Harris, Drake, Justin Timberlake and Selena Gomez, and members of the musical.ly community can use "likes" to bolster their favorite artist’s position.

A winner will be chosen based on the volume of content generated with each eligible song during the campaign, using the hashtag #VMASongsofSummer. The nominee with the most votes will be announced live during the pre-show of this year’s VMAs, being held Aug. 28 at the Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Musers, here are the Song of Summer Presented by Verizon nominees:

"This Is What You Came For" // Calvin Harris featuring Rihanna

"Closer" // The Chainsmokers featuring Halsey

"One Dance" // Drake featuring Kyla & Wizkid

"All In My Head (Flex)" // Fifth Harmony featuring Fetty Wap

"Can’t Stop The Feeling" // Justin Timberlake

"Don’t Mind" // Kent Jones

"Cold Water" // Major Lazer featuring Justin Bieber MØ

"Bacon" // Nick Jonas featuring Ty Dolla $ign

"Kill 'Em With Kindness" // Selena Gomez

This is the first MTV partnership for musical.ly, which allows its 120 million global users to create and upload 15-second videos of them singing, lip-syncing and dancing along to songs. It raised a ton of money in May and in late June, Warner Music Group became the first major label to allow its music to be licensed for the platform.
