In the wake of American Idol's end, Fox is adding a new musical entry to its unscripted slate.
The network has picked up an interactive musical game show based on the Shazam app from Mark Burnett, Fox Television Group chairman and CEO Dana Walden announced Monday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour.
Beat Shazam centers on individuals competing to identify a particular song, much the way the Shazam app helps users find out the title and artist behind a track. Those who are successful will then have to go up against the app for the top prize. Burnett will exec produce with Jeff Apploff (Don't Forget the Lyrics), and Shazam Entertainment Limited will be a partner on the series. No premiere date has yet been announced.
