PRS Foundation Selects 18 Artists for Momentum Music Fund
PRS for Music Foundation has selected another 18 artists to receive grants as part of its ongoing Momentum Music Fund. The fund, which has backed 120-plus acts since launching in 2013, announced on Monday that Arts Council England committed a further £1 million ($1.3 million) in support, and that Spotify has confirmed it too will continue its role as digital partner for the next two years.
The new slate of artists include Mercury Prize nominee ESKA, along with Afriquoi, AZEKEL, Charlie Cunningham, Eli & Fur, Employed To Serve, Flamingos, Hooton Tennis Club, Kagoule, LEVELZ, LIFE, ROM, Speech Debelle, Swindle, Ten Fè, This Is The Kit, Throwing Shade and Tom Misch.
According to PRS, every pound invested by Momentum since the fund's inception has generated £7.46 ($10) for the U.K. music industry. Funded artists have seen a 204 percent increase in their live audiences, with Facebook likes doubling and Twitter followers climbing by 74 percent.
"Momentum's impact over the past 3 years demonstrate that this is not only a hugely popular fund, but a transformational one, which is having a positive impact on the careers of over 120 artists.," said Vanessa Reed, executive director of PRS for Music Foundation. "Thanks to our shared belief in this partnership [with Arts Council England] and with additional help from Spotify we're looking forward to encouraging and supporting even more of the country's diverse and talented artists to reach that next stage of their careers."
