Executive Turntable: Promotions at Republic Records, NAB Radio Board of Directors Appointments & More
-- Mark Claassen is returning to William Morris Endeavor (WME) as a music agent in the company's Nashville office after serving nine years at Elite Talent Agency. He brings music artists that include Switchfoot, Lincoln Brewster, Joe Foreman and Thousand Foot Krutch, among others.
-- RCA Records has promoted Wendy Goodman to senior VP promotion of adult music. She previously held the title of VP promotion of West Coast operations & adult music at the company. Goodman is noted for leading the campaign that broke Elle King and has been instrumental in radio campaign for artists such as Kelly Clarkson and Walk the Moon.
-- The national executive board of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) has named Michael Blakeslee as the new executive director and chief executive, replacing Michael Butera. Blakeslee has worked with the company for over 30 years with a number of accomplishments, including serving as editor of the Music Educators Journal and of Teaching Music magazine.
-- Nielsen Entertainment has named Paul Shaver head of Nielsen Music Canada. He holds over 20 years of experience in the music industry and has previously held leadership roles at HMV Canada, Virgin Music Canada and EMI.
-- Manny Simon has been promoted to senior VP of adult formats at Republic Records. He joined the company in 2014 as VP of adult formats and has worked on campaigns for artists such as The Weekend, James Bay and DNCE. Prior to joining Republic, Simon served eight years at Island Def Jam Music Group. In addition, Republic has promoted Gary Spangler to executive VP of promotion. Spangler first joined the company in 2006 as vp of crossover promotion before moving to senior VP of promotion and operations in 2012. He has driven campaigns for artists such as Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj.
-- Music marketing and tour sponsorship expert Dave Aussenberg has joined Creative Artists Agency (CAA) to help bolster the agency's growing music brand partnerships group. He will be based in the New York office and he previously served as senior manager at Platinum Rye Entertainment.
-- Josh Roth has joined Superfly, co-creators of Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival and Outside Lands, as director of programming. Prior to joining the company, he co-founded This Fiction Management with Seth Kallen and held a roster of artists including Ra Ra Riot and X Ambassadors.
-- The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) has appointed four broadcasters to the NAB Radio Board of Directors for the two-year terms, effective June 2016; Hartley Adkins, president of Northeast division and corporate operations, iHeartMedia; Andre Fernandez, president of CBS Radio; Deon Levingston, regional VP at Radio One; and Jose Valle, president of political and advocacy sales at Univision Communications Inc.
-- Universal Music Group has appointed Jonathan Dworkin to senior VP of digital strategy and business development, where he will be based in the company's Santa Monica headquarters. He most recently served as chief marketing office of MixRadio.
