The third Ralph Peer II Award for Outstanding Contribution to Global Music Publishing will be presented to Midem, the International Confederation of Music Publishers (ICMP) has announced. The Award was initiated by ICMP in 2013 to recognize visionaries in the field of music publishing. This year’s ceremony will take place on June 4 during the Midem International Awards.

“It’s never been more important for the relationships within the music business community to be global," according peer music chair/CEO and ICMP board member Ralph Peer, for whom the award is named after and who was its first recipient. “For 50 years, Midem has played a crucial role by creating a space where music publishing leaders can come together from around the world to connect, share ideas and build relationships that advance our community as a whole. The board of ICMP is proud to honor Midem on its 50th anniversary with this award in recognition of all that it does for music creators.”

“For all of us, Midem is a wonderful opportunity to meet face-to-face with our business partners from around the world, to explore and conclude new business opportunities, and to discuss the pressing industry issues of the day," ICMP chair and Universal Music Publishing International executive vp Andrew Jenkins said in a statement.

In an email Jenkins predicts "a lot of discussion on guaranteeing fair remuneration for artists from streaming services; the need for metadata and the creation of a truly open global music database" at this year's conference.

“As Midem celebrates its 50th anniversary this award is particularly special,” Reed MIDEM Entertainment Division director Jérôme Delhaye said in a statement. “Creating an international market for music publishers was the initial raison-d’être for launching Midem and publishers remain at the heart of the event."

At the upcoming MIDEM, held June 3-6 at the Palais Des Festivals in Cannes, France, there will be a day long Copyright Summit on June 5 as well as a morning of seminars on synch and branding.
