Bandcamp Urges Artists to Bundle Up

Bandcamp is pulling a Costco and giving artists an easy way to sell their albums in bulk. A full discography purchase option was quietly added to user accounts recently, giving artists the ability to bundle their digital albums and sell them for a discounted price.

For their discographies to be bundle-worthy, artists must have at least three purchasable albums. Bands can set the discount to between zero and 90 percent. Labels that manage band discographies can also offer the bundles in much the same way.

In a blog post announcing the plan, Bandcamp said that if every eligible artist turns on the new pricing option, they’ll see "about $1.8 million in bundles sell over the next few weeks. So get on it!"

Earlier this year, Bandcamp made some other changes aimed at increasing digital sales. The updates made it so Bandcamp could support credit cards and give fans the option to pay all at once for a shopping cart full of multiple artists (you previously had to check out separately for each artist).

Bandcamp’s revenue share starts at 15 percent for digital downloads and 10 percent for physical products, like CDs and vinyl.
