AIM Awards to Honor Trio Behind Ninja Tune
The founders and longtime manager of iconic indie label group Ninja Tune will be honored with the Innovator Award at this year’s AIM Independent Music Awards. Founded by Matt Black and Jonathan More, and run by Peter Quicke for 23 of its 25 years, London-based Ninja Tune has a well-deserved reputation as a visionary label.
Labels under the Ninja Tune umbrella include Big Dada, Counter Records and Werkdiscs, and the company works with Brainfeeder. Ninja Tune and its family of labels have worked with artists ranging from Amon Tobin, Thundercats, Kelis, Diplo, Kate Tempest and Run the Jewels. Also on the roster: Coldcut, the pioneering electronic duo consisting of co-founders Black and More.
"It's a real honour to get this award," said More. "Aim is so crucial in fighting the indie labels corner -- making that collective voice heard where it counts. We started Ninja Tune with a firm belief of being 100 percent independent. That belief has not changed after all these years."
The AIM Awards, an annual celebration of indie artists and industry figures, will take place Sept. 8 at The Brewery in London. Returning as hosts will be XFM's John Kennedy and Radio 1's Alice Levine.
