Downtown Music Publishing has acquired London-based music publisher Eagle-i Music, and names the acquired firm's co-founder, Roberto Neri, as managing director of Downtown UK. The sellers of Eagle-I were the venture capital firm of Beringea, Neri and Eagle Rock Entertainment, with principles Terry Shand, Geoff Kempin and Simon Hoskin. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

In addition to securing Eagle-i's music publishing assets, Downtown is also acquiring the company's neighboring rights and production library businesses and will be integrating those operations across its global network. According to sources, Eagle-I had top line revenues of about $1.1 million to $1.6 million over the last few years.

Its music publishing business includes representing catalogs of such artists as Deep Purple, Jeff Healey, Brian Jonestown Massacre, and B.A. Robertson. Its artists and writer roster on its website also lists John Lennon & Yoko Ono, both of which are also handled by Downtown Music Publishing.

Prior to Eagle-i, Neri served as Group Vice President, International and General Manager of Bug Music UK. He began his career in music rights with the PRS in 1999.

"I am excited to now be part of Downtown, their balance of creativity and technology has brought them to the forefront of the industry, said Neri, who previously had served as GM of BUG Music UK. In addition to Nerie, Eagle-i's head of administration Joe Woolmore, sync coordinator Luke Montague and creative coordinator Ninon Coletti will join Downtown's U.K. team, which also includes A&R manager Tom Graham.

"As a company, we have been fortunate to represent many of the UK's most inspiring songwriters and publishers," said Kalifowitz. "British music has not only made a huge impact on our business, but continues to enrich our lives. With that in mind, I'm thrilled to welcome Roberto and the team to Downtown as we expand our operations in London."

Besides expanding its activity in the U.K., Downtown also has a presence in New York, Los Angeles, Nashville and Amsterdam.
