Critically acclaimed artist Lizz Wright has joined the Concord Music Group roster. In addition, the singer/songwriter is now managed by Cynthia Herbst, president of American International Artists (AIA).

Wright's first album for Concord--her fifth overall--is slated for release in September. The set's chief collaborators are Grammy Award-winning producer Larry Klein (Herbie Hancock, Joni Mitchell, Pink) and singer/songwriter David Batteau (Trisha Yearwood, Madeleine Peyroux, Shawn Colvin).

The yet-untitled project is Wright's first since 2010's inspirational-themed Fellowship. Bowing at No. 1 on Billboard's Contemporary Jazz Albums chart, the set was Wright's fourth and final project for Verve. It was preceded by three additional top-charting contemporary jazz albums:  2008's The Orchard (No. 2), 2005's Dreaming Wide Awake (debuting/holding at No. 1 for five weeks) and 2003's Salt (debut/peak at No. 2). Wright's credits also include guest vocal collaborations with Me'Shell Ndegeocello, Jakob Dylan and Joe Sample.

"Life happened, which is a good thing," says Wright of her five-year break between albums. "So I have something to talk about, a need to make a record." Scheduled to begin playing European dates in May, she adds, "I'm enjoying the upper ends of my register now, which really allows me to tell a story. I want to get inside of it like Roberta Flack and Nina Simone. They embody a song, not just sing over it."
