Indie Label Cooking Vinyl Launches Music Management Arm
British independent label Cooking Vinyl has partnered with John Black to launch a standalone management arm called Black Gold Music Management. The new London-based enterprise will be headed by John Black and will operate independently from Cooking Vinyl, but will be able to utilise the label's A&R and marketing assets, as well its financial resources to launch and fund new acts.
Black Gold's client roster includes former JLS member Oritsé Williams, who is now known as OWS and releases his debut solo single "Waterline" featuring Pusha T on Island/Overthrow March 29. Other artists signed to the venture include British singer-songwriter Stevie Appleton, indie band Modern Addiction and Sierra Leone-born pop singer A*M*E, who scored a U.K. No. 1 in April 2013 when she featured on Duke Dumont and MNEK's "Need U (100%)." The management company also represents a number of music video directors, including GreenDore and Drew Cox.
Prior to launching Black Gold, Black headed the music division at PR and management agency The CAN Group since 2013. Before that he co-managed Scottish singer Sandi Thom, who topped the British charts with her 2006 single "I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker." He subsequently joined Logan Media Entertainment, where he looked after domestic and international activity for Cher Lloyd, Russell Watson and Anastacia.
Cooking Vinyl Records was launched in 1986 and currently includes The Prodigy, Marilyn Manson, Röyksopp, James, Amanda Palmer and Billy Bragg among its client roster. The Cooking Vinyl Group also comprises Essential Music & Marketing, CV America, as well as offices in Australia, France, Germany and a separate publishing arm.
Commenting on the launch of Black Gold, Cooking Vinyl founder and CEO Martin Goldschmidt said Black "has integrity, over-delivers on promises, and has an artist centric philosophy that really fits into the Cooking Vinyl ethos. We are thrilled about being involved in growing his new management venture."
"It's a great honour to have the backing and support of Martin and such an incredible team at Cooking Vinyl," responded Black, adding, "I'm very much looking forward to a successful and long lasting partnership."
