Cellfish Media Rebrands as Bandsintown Group
Cellfish Media has been rebranded as Bandsintown Group three years after the app publisher acquired the concert-tracking app Bandsintown.
According to the press release, the move reflects the company's efforts to strengthen its position in live music and entertainment. The company had operated Bandsintown while also developing apps for clients such as Fox, Marvel and the NBA.
Like its main competitor, Songkick, Bandsintown is an online service that helps music fans track and discover concerts. "Live music is one of the last tribal experiences at a time when everything is going digital," said CEO Fabrice Sergent in a statement. "People are increasingly looking to connect and share in the real world, taking online experiences offline."
Bandsintown claims to reach 120 million fans each month and have 12 million registered users and over 230,000 registered touring artists. Competitor Songkick claims to have over 6 million monthly users.
Additional tools had been built around the concert-tracking app. Bandsintown Manager is a tour promotion app for artists. Bandsintown Amplified, the result of Cellfish Media's 2013 acquisition of ToneMedia, is an ad platform that uses Bandsintown data to help advertisers connect with consumers. Finally, Bandsintown Promoters allows concert promoters to assess demand and advertise events to potential concertgoers.
