Island Records has promoted veteran A&R man Steve Yegelwel to senior vp at the Universal Music Group imprint. According to a news release, Yegelwel will be involved in running the label's A&R department and will work closely with executive vp Eric Wong on marketing up-and-coming artists.

"Steve is that rare breed of music executive who compliments his love of A&R with even broader knowledge of artist development strategies, a combination that will serve him well in this next phase of his career at Island Records," said David Massey, Island's president.

Beginning in 2012, Yegelwel served as senior vp of A&R at UMG's Mercury Records, which has since been combined with Island. At Mercury he was responsible for signing Fountains of Wayne and We The Kings, and he recently brought American Authors to Island.

Before Mercury, Yegelwel spent five years as president at S-Curve Records, where he had also previously headed up the A&R department. His resume also includes a stint at Columbia Records as senior vp of A&R, which followed earlier posts at Atlantic and the indie Scratchie Records.
