Tommy LiPuma Joins UMPG as Creative Consultant

The Universal Music Publishing Group has signed record producer and former Verve head honcho Tommy LiPuma as a creative consultant, advising the company on everything from catalog acquisitions, new signings, songwriter collaborations and helping to place songs from the UMPG catalog with contemporary recording artists.

LiPuma served as president of GRP and Impulse and then chairman of the Verve Music Group when those labels were merged in. Earlier in his career he worked for Liberty Records and A&M, in the 1960's and also was involved in the founding of Blue Thumb Records. While at those labels he began overseeing demo sessions, which led to becoming a record producer, eventually handling the boards for records by such artist as Diana Krall, Barbra Streisand, Willie Nelson, Leon Russell, Miles Davis, Natalie Cole, George Benson, Al Jarreau,  David Sanborn, Earl Klugh, Everything but the Girl, Peabo Bryson, Randy Newman, Miles Davis and Dr. John, among others.
