Warner Music UK’s Max Lousada Appointed BRITs Chairman

Warner Music U.K. CEO Max Lousada has been named chairman of the BRITs Committee, assuming creative responsibility for the 2015 edition of the U.K.'s biggest annual music awards show.

Lousada succeeds former Warner Music U.K. CEO Christian Tattersfield, who stepped down as BRITs Committee chairman following this year’s show, which took place Feb. 19 at London’s The O2 arena and featured live performances from Beyoncé, Bruno Mars, Arctic Monkeys and Katy Perry.

While this year’s event drew the BRIT's biggest-ever global audience via its own dedicated YouTube channel, the live broadcast also pulled in its lowest domestic TV audience in over a decade, attracting 4.5 million viewers, compared to 6.5 million the previous year.

Lousada's appointment forms part of a creative revamp that also includes the addition of Es Devlin as stage designer and Willo Perron as creative director to help shape next year’s event.

Devlin’s credits include working on tours for Miley Cyrus, Kanye West, Take That, Lady Gaga and Muse, as well as designing the London 2012 Olympic Closing Ceremony. Perron has an equally illustrious résumé, having previously collaborated with a range of A-list artists, including Jay Z, Beck, Rihanna, Florence + The Machine and Coldplay.

As well as overseeing the creative direction of the 2015 edition, Lousada will also head up management of the award categories, artist line up, voting academy and the digital and media strategy.

"We are excited to be working with Max as he shapes the creative vision for the 2015 BRIT Awards,” said BPI and BRIT Awards limited chief executive, Geoff Taylor, in a statement. Taylor went on to thank Christian Tattersfield “for his great contribution, in particular in helping us to deliver a forward-thinking digital campaign in 2014 that enabled The BRITs to reach more people globally than ever before."

“The BRITs is the U.K.’s biggest showcase for music talent and one of the most anticipated events in the global entertainment calendar, so to lead the team behind it is both a great honor and an exciting challenge,” commented Lousada.

“At its heart, The BRITs is a celebration of creativity, so it’s fitting that our first appointments are Es and Willo, both of whom are synonymous with artistic excellence and have collaborated with some of the world’s most exciting and inventive acts,” he went on.

The 2015 BRIT Awards are due to take place on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at London’s The O2 arena.
