Ticketfly Names Ex-Amazon Exec Steve Oliver New COO

Former Amazon executive Steve Oliver has been named chief operating officer for fast-growing cloud-based social ticketing platform Ticketfly, which will operate ticketing and digital marketing for more than 120,000 events in 2014.

Ticketfly is in major growth mode this year, having added new clients with the Pitchfork Music Festival, Burning Man, and Forest Hills Stadium in New York. Oliver will be tasked with developing best practices in e-commerce and digital marketing, according to Ticketfly CEO Andrew Dreskin.

Launched in 2008, San Francisco-based Ticketfly has raised $37 million in venture capital to date, with the money geared towards a focus on building scale, development of products and services, increased functionality, and expansion into new markets.

As COO, Oliver is responsible for leading the day-to-day business operations at Ticketfly, as well as for driving the company's long-term strategy. He spent nine years at Amazon in a variety of functional leadership and GM roles, most recently as the country manager for Amazon Canada, where he led the Amazon.ca business across all product lines. Oliver joins a roster of experienced ticketing industry veterans and technologists at Ticketfly, led by Dreskin, co-founder of TicketWeb, credited with selling the first online event ticket in 1995. TicketWeb was acquired by Ticketmaster in 2000.

“Steve is joining Ticketfly at the perfect time to help an ever-expanding list of event promoters grow their business and improve the live event experience for fans," Dreskin told Billboard. "Ticketfly is growing at a remarkable clip, and will greatly benefit from Steve’s experience scaling operations at Amazon to support rapid expansion and long-term strategic goals.”

Oliver is the most recent in a string of strategic senior leadership hires at Ticketfly largely focused on innovation and scale. Kristina Wallender, another Amazon veteran with experience in data analytics, now heads Ticketfly’s marketing department. Ticketfly VP of product and engineering Spencer Greene has over 30 patents to his name, many of which he filed at Juniper Networks, where he drove product development and strategy. New VP of technology Craig Taylor recently moved to Ticketfly from Yahoo!.
