Darryl Watts Promoted to Creative Director at UMPG

Darryl Watts, former creative manager/senior director of A&R at Universal Music Publishing Group, has been promoted to creative director at the company.

In his new position, Watts will continue to have a hand in the UK A&R development in addition to his role on the creative team. He will also keep reporting to head of A&R Caroline Elleray.

“Darryl is a consummate professional and I’m delighted to recognize his talent, hard work and success with this promotion," commented Paul Connolly, president of Universal Music Publishing Europe & UK. "Always well-informed, Darryl has an unerring ability to spot hit songs and connect with great songwriters across a variety of genres -- and he’s a total gentleman too.”

Paul Centellas, manager of powerhouse songwriting and production team TMS (Little Mix, Emeli Sande), agrees: "Darryl also understands the importance of strategy when developing the careers of his writers. A genuinely fantastic publisher and all-round good bloke, albeit with a very suspect taste in football teams."

While at UMPG, Watts has been responsible for signing artists like Neil Finn and chart-toppers Bastille in addition to the catalogs of Johnny Marr and Joy Division.
