Bubbling Under: Nico & Vinz Move In Right Direction With 'Am I Wrong'

Each Friday, Billboard presents Bubbling Under, a weekly look at new and noteworthy acts making their way toward Billboard chart success. Up this week: Nico & Vinz, SomeKindaWonderful and Joe Bachman
Nico & Vinz

After scoring success with its single "Am I Wrong" in Europe, Norwegian duo Nico & Vinz (formerly known as Envy) is breaking through stateside. The melodic cut bullets at No. 37 on the Adult Pop Songs chart and is building at pop radio, while its official video and lyric clip have drawn a combined 11 million YouTube views. The twosome (Nico Sereba and Vincent Dery) signed a global deal with Warner Bros. last year.

Kicking off with a stuttered drum beat that recalls the Ronettes' classic "Be My Baby," SomeKindaWonderful's "Reverse" was born by chance. In January 2013, singer Jordy Towers was visiting family in Olmstead Falls, Ohio, when he met guitarist Matt Gibson and drummer Ben Schigel at a bar. "We were basically a band without a lead singer, and he was a lead singer without a band," Schigel says. "We headed back to our studio the night we met and, literally three hours later, our first song, 'Reverse,' was done." The pop/rock/soul cut approaches the Alternative Songs chart ahead of the band's debut Downtown Records album, due this summer.
Joe Bachman

Singer/songwriter Joe Bachman gains traction just beneath the Country Airplay chart with "Lookatchu," released on the independent Rock Ridge label and written by top-shelf tunesmiths Josh Kear, Ed Hill and David Frasier. The Philadelphia-born Bachman is already a seasoned live performer, having worked roughly 200 shows per year for the past decade. He's in the studio working on his second full-length album, which follows his self-released "One" in 2012.
