"Tu y Yo" also debuted at No. 1 on Argentina’s sales chart, and at No. 1 on the iTunes chart for Chile, Venezuela, Costa Rica and Argentina.
While sales of "Tu y Yo" were boosted by the single's strong performance which has remained on the chart for nine weeks, the major jump in sales in Spain came from two directions. First, purchase of the album was bundled into the ticket price for Bisbal’s 21-city Spanish tour, which kicks off June 14 in his hometown of Almería.
In addition, "Tu y Yo" is also the name of a feature film in which Bisbal plays himself and which premiered in more than 60 theaters in Spain March 20. The film, directed by Goya Award winner Kike Maíllo is a romantic comedy that tells a fictional story that takes place during a Bisbal tour. The film features multiple Bisbal performances while he’s on tour and videos for four songs were incorporated into the movie.
“It’s one of the most innovative releases in recent years,” says Jesús López, chairman/CEO of Universal Music Latin America, Iberian Penninsula.
Aside from being signed to Universal Music Latino, Bisbal is also managed by GTS, the label’s talent arm. GTS is also booking Bisbal’s tour, which kicked off March 21 in Argentina. Bisbal will play eight dates in that country before going to Uruguay and then playing seven dates in Mexico. In between, he’ll perform at Billboard’s 25th anniversary concert April 23 and at the Billboard Latin Music Awards April 24.
"Tu y Yo" was produced by Sebastian Krys and features duets with Antonio Orozco, India Martínez and Brazilian singer Sandy (of duo Sandy & Junior).
