Gail Mitchell's R&B/Hip Hop Briefs: Kashif Royalty Auction, Talib Kweli Launches Station, Jennifer Holliday Returns

--- The Royalty Exchange will be conducting an auction of royalties from the catalog of noted singer/songwriter/producer Kashif. The week-long auction opens tomorrow (Nov. 8) at noon ET and concludes Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. ET.

The sale will feature royalty streams from more than 152 songs affiliated with the six-time Grammy nominee. Best known for his work on Whitney Houston’s No. 1 breakout “You Give Good Love,” Kashif has written and produced hits as well for Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Monica, Barry White and Kenny G, among others. As an Arista artist, Kashif racked up several top 10 R&B hits. Now residing in Maui, Kashif plans to use part of the auction proceeds to help develop educational programs and finalize production/secure worldwide distribution for his 10-part documentary film series, “The History of R&B Music and Its Influence on World Culture.”

--- Talib Kweli has launched his own radio station on Javotti Radio can be accessed through and will feature the rapper’s music as well as that of artists on his Javotti Media label. Additional programming on the signature station will include interviews, news and commentary on politics, culture and entertainment. --- The original “Dreamgirl” herself, Jennifer Holliday returns after a 23-year recording hiatus with "The Song Is You." The set of R&B, pop and jazz standards is slated for Jan. 21 through Euphonic Records/Shanachie Entertainment.
