Def Jam/Def Soul president Kevin Liles has resigned his post. He exits Universal Music Group less than two weeks after Island Def Jam Music Group chairman/CEO Lyor Cohen left the major to take over as chairman/CEO of Warner Music Group's U.S. operations.

"We wish Kevin only the best in all his future endeavors," says a UMG spokesman.

Speculation following Cohen's departure centered around whether Liles and Island Records president/IDJ executive VP Julie Greenwald would seek to terminate their UMG tenures and join Cohen at WMG. It is still unclear whether Liles will end up at WMG, but sources suggest Greenwald is in negotiations to renew her contract with UMG.

UMG is also reportedly in negotiations with former Arista president/CEO Antonio "L.A." Reid to fill Cohen's vacated post as IDJMG chairman/CEO. Reid left Arista last month in what was regarded as a streamlining move in anticipation of regulatory approval of the proposed merger between Sony Music and BMG.
