Madonna Tickets Move Quickly

Any uncertainties about Madonna's clout at the box office were annihilated over the weekend, as initial sales of her re-Invention summer tour took off with a bang.

Almost every show put on sale sold out quickly, and numerous dates have been added, including a sixth show at Madison Square Garden in New York. Over the weekend, Madonna sold out five Garden shows (June 16, 17, 20, 21, 23) and added a June 24 date. She also sold out Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena for May 29 and added a May 30 show.

Other Madonna sellouts from the weekend include three dates at Chicago's United Center (July 11, 12, 14); three at Toronto's Air Canada Centre (July 18, 19, 21); the July 28 date at Office Depot Centre in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; Aug. 1 at Miami's American Airlines Arena; and Aug. 18-19 at Earls Court in London.

She also added shows July 29 in Ft. Lauderdale, Aug. 2 in Miami, Aug. 22 at London's Wembley Arena and May 25 at the L.A. Forum.

The tour, to begin May 24, will be produced worldwide by Clear Channel Entertainment (CCE) under the direction of CCE Touring president Arthur Fogel. There will be no supporting acts, and the set list will be mainly a career retrospective.

In 2001, Madonna grossed $75 million from 47 sellouts. That tour was also produced by CCE.
