Apple: Huge Q2 Sales Burst For iPod

Apple Computer says it generated $264 million on sales of 807,000 iPods during its fiscal second quarter, which ended March 27.

Illustrating the exploding popularity of iPod over the last year, sales of the portable music player are up 752% from the second quarter of 2003, when the company produced $31 million in revenues on sales of 80,000 iPods.

iPod sales are up 3% from the first quarter of fiscal 2004.

Apple did not break out figures for the iTunes Music Store.

Overall, the company's quarterly net profit tripled from the same period last year, rising to $46 million, or 12 cents per diluted share. Revenue for the quarter increased 29% to $1.9 billion. International sales accounted for 43% of the quarter's revenue.
