Epiphone Gets Strange With Custom Guitar

Instrument, contest are based on Emily character.

Epiphone, a division of Gibson Guitar Corp., is offering the limited-edition Emily Strange G-310 electric guitar, based on the Emily the Strange clothing and accessories line by Cosmic Debris Etc Inc.

The Emily Strange Guitar Contest, in which contestants submit a recorded song about the Generation-Y cartoon character, is being held conjunction with the guitar's introduction.

Epiphone and Gibson are aggressively marketing limited-edition guitars. In recent months, Epiphone has launched a series of guitars featuring graphic designs commemorating football and basketball colleges; the Airscreamer, a guitar created for the Trailer Park Troubadours and officially licensed by the Airstream company; and the Bob Marley Commemorative Les Paul Special, modeled after the reggae legend's original early-'70s Les Paul Special.

In March, Gibson Guitar Corp.'s Custom Art & Historical Division unveiled motorcycle-themed guitars featuring artwork by the "Three Kings of Custom," custom motorcycle builders Arlen Ness, David Perewitz and Donnie Smith.
