Industry Mogul Dupri Buys Vodka Brand

So So Def CEO expands into liquor market.

So So Def Recordings founder/CEO Jermaine Dupri is the latest hip-hop exec to enter the alcohol business, becoming an owner and partner of 3 Vodka Distilling Co.

The brand's primary selling point is that it is distilled from soy rather than grain, and touts itself as the only vodka with that distinction on the market. The Chicago-based liquor company has approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to label its product as containing "zero carbohydrates."

"Becoming a partner in 3 Vodka expands my reach," says Dupri in a statement, "and is the beginning of my plans to broaden the scope of my corporate ties outside of the music business."

Roc-A-Fella CEO Damon Dash purchased a controlling stake in the Armadale Vodka in 2002.
