Viacom Chairman Dolgen Steps Down

Resignation follows that of prez/COO Karmazin.

Jonathan Dolgen resigned as chairman of the Viacom Entertainment Group today (June 2) according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The announcement comes just one day after the resignation of Viacom's president/COO, Mel Karmazin, was made public.

Yesterday (June 1), Viacom's chairman/CEO Sumner Redstone appointed Tom Freston and Leslie Moonves as co-presidents and co-chief executive officers. Freston is CEO of MTV Networks and Moonves is CEO of CBS Television.

Dolgen allegedly resigned due to a lessening of his duties after the joint appointment of Freston and Moonves. He will stay at Viacom through July 15, when he will officially step down.

Calls to Viacom were not returned at press time.

In other news, Boston radio veteran Oedipus has exited his role as program director with Infinity Broadcasting-owned WBCN-FM after 29 years at the station. The executive will continue on with Infinity as VP of alternative programming, working with Steve Rivers.
