EC Postpones Hearing On Sony/BMG Merger

The European Commission has postponed its hearing into the proposed Sony-BMG merger until June 14-15. The Commission had

originally scheduled the hearing for the week before, but realized that date would not have given the parties enough time to prepare.

The hearing is a chance for Sony and BMG to respond to the Commission's initial concerns about the merger, which were communicated last month in a Statement of Objections.

Sony and BMG will prepare a written defense and present the main points orally at the hearing. Other parties expected to attend include representatives of EU governments and music-industry groups such as independent labels' body Impala.
