Songwriter Moana Maniapoto and recording studio veteran Eldred Stebbing were among the New Zealanders honored in this year's Queen's Birthday list, announced today. Both were appointed Members of the New Zealand Order Of Merit.

Maniapoto--who is also a documentary filmmaker and a political activist--won the prestigious 2003 International Songwriting Competition. The L.A.-based global talent quest attracted an estimated 11,000 entries.

Stebbing, who turns 82 this year, is CEO of Auckland recording studio Stebbing Recording Center, which he set up in 1940. During his career, Stebbing has recorded with such international acts as Nat King Cole and Shirley Bassey.
