Judge Sides With Eminem In Legal Battle Vs. Source

Ruling finds mag in contempt for publishing lyrics.

Judge Gerard E. Lynch of United States District Court for the Southern District of New York has found Source Enterprises, publisher of The Source magazine, in contempt of court for failing to comply with an injunction relating to a copyright case with rapper Eminem and his label, Shady Records.

Judge Lynch awarded monetary damages to Shady Records, while dismissing counterclaims against Eminem himself.

According to reports, the judge ruled that the New York-based magazine publisher violated an injunction by publishing lyrics by Eminem on its Web site. The lyrics, which were written several years ago, before Eminem's major success, degrade black women. The judge said their publication by The Source carried the potential to impair the credibility of Eminem.

Representatives for Source Enterprises and Eminem could not be reached for comment at deadline.
