Brussels-based independent PIAS has promoted Nick Hartley as CEO of its U.K. group. He was COO of the London-based PIAS U.K. division, which comprises Vital Distribution, PIAS Recordings (U.K.) and Fat Cat Records.
“Since (early 2002), I've been working across the U.K. and Europe, latterly more on the U.K. alongside Peter Thompson, the managing director of Vital Distribution and John Dyer, the GM of PIAS Recordings. So, it's more firming up my position as head of the U.K. operations,” Hartley tells Billboard.biz.
In his new role, Hartley reports to PIAS group co-presidents Kenny Gates and Michel Lambot.
Hartley joined PIAS in March 2000 as group finance director and in June 2001 was upped to COO of the U.K. division and the overall PIAS group. He retains some responsibilities as group COO and continues as a group board member.
"Nick has played a major leading role in the restructuring of both the U.K. and the overall group following our split with Edel back in early 2002,” says Gates. “Since then, Nick's wide skills across all areas of our business have been invaluable in helping us build a successful U.K. group," he adds.
Before joining PIAS, Hartley was CFO for PolyGram U.K. prior to its acquisition by Universal/Seagram. He worked in Australia for PolyGram and EMI before that.
