Great Wall Of China To Host Pop Concert

Alicia Keys is first confirmed performer.

Alicia Keys is the first confirmed performer for the inaugural international pop music concert to be staged at the Great Wall of China. Wall of Hope China 2004 will take place Sept. 25 at the Wall's Ju Yong Guan North Gate in Beijing.

The show -- which coincides with the 20th anniversary of the Great Wall restoration project -- represents the first in a series of benefit concerts planned for China's key metros. Besides Beijing, shows are slated for Shanghai and Guangzou.

Veteran sports agent Leigh Steinberg is producing the series in conjunction with partners Richard Lee and Eugene Lou under the Steinberg Lee and Lou Enterprises (SLL) banner. The production team also includes Hal Uplinger (Live Aid, Farm Aid), Phil Chilvers (Nelson Mandela Concert at Wembley), Mike Appleton (Elton John's Christmas Concert), BTB Communications and Soldier Stories Entertainment. Louis Horvitz (Academy Awards, Emmys) will serve as executive creative consultant.

Television personality Cynthia Garrett (HBO's "Buzz") is among the confirmed hosts for the concert, which will be taped for international television broadcast. Proceeds from the invitation-only event will benefit the China Children and Teenagers' Fund.
