Apollo Theater Fete Headed To DVD

Warner inks deal for fitness videos.

The Apollo Theater Foundation's 70th anniversary celebration will debut on DVD Sept. 14 from Rhino Home Video, it was announced at the Video Software Dealers Assn. (VSDA) convention in Las Vegas.

The DVD, "Apollo at 70: A Hot Night in Harlem," is culled from the March celebration event, which featured live music, comedy and dance, as well as clips highlighting the careers of acts such as Ella Fitzgerald, Gladys Knight & the Pips, James Brown and Stevie Wonder. Performers at the event included Willie Nelson, Natalie Cole, Brian McKnight and Ashanti. The show aired on NBC in June.

The DVD, which will retail for $19.99, will feature behind-the-scenes footage and exclusive performances not on the original broadcast, from the likes of Patti Austin, Gerald Levert and MC Lyte.

Also at VSDA, Warner Strategic Marketing announced that it has signed a long-term deal to market and distribute a series of videos with Women's Fitness Network.

The deal will involve the fitness line "The Firm," created by Anna and Cynthia Benson. Six videos will debut at retail in the first quarter of 2005.

The titles will be distributed through WEA and will be supported by national infomercial campaigns.
