Dead Show Vitality On Summer Stretch

After a slow start to their U.S. summer tour, the Dead picked up some major momentum in the East to close out the outing.

After a slow start to their U.S. summer tour, the Dead picked up some major momentum in the East to close out the outing.

The band grossed more than $3.4 million collectively from its last six shows, topped by a two-night stand Aug. 13-14 at Tommy Hilfiger Pavilion at Jones Beach that grossed more than $1.3 million. The tour wrapped Aug. 16 at Hi-Fi Buys Amphitheatre in Atlanta.

Other standouts were four June shows at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colo., that drew more than 42,000.

As the tour wound down, the Dead were averaging about 2,500 in walkups per show.
