Sony Signs On For CinemaNow

VOD service to offer '50 First Dates,' more.

Online video-on-demand service CinemaNow will be featuring content from Sony as of today (Sept. 15).

CinemaNow -- whose primary investors include Lions Gate Entertainment, Microsoft and Blockbuster -- also offers films from major studios such as Fox, MGM, Miramax and Warner Bros.

The first Sony titles to be featured on CinemaNow are "50 First Dates" and "Hellboy." All new-release Sony films will be available through CinemaNow the same day as their pay-per-view release. Between 75 and 100 Sony library titles will also be available, in a selection that will change every few months.

The only major studios that are not providing content to CinemaNow are Paramount and Universal. The two studios, along with MGM, Sony and Warner Bros., are part of the joint venture Movielink, a rival online VOD service.
