Three of the six recipients of this year's honors from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts are musicians. The honors, to be presented at a Dec. 5 gala at the Kennedy Center's Opera House, are for lifetime contributions to American culture.

Two of the three musicians are British: pop legend Sir Elton John and reknowned opera soprano Joan Sutherland. U.S. composer/conductor John Williams will also take a bow.

The others honorees are actor/director/producer/writer Warren Beatty and pioneering husband-and-wife actors/writers/producers Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee.

James Brown, Loretta Lynn and Itzhak Perlman were among last year's honorees.
