NEW YORK -- EMI Music has inked a deal with Interoute, a London-based digital rights management firm, to use its technology to digitally distribute pre-release content internally and to other third parties like press and radio.

Content is copy-protected and distributed through a secure networking technology called Share! The goal is to reduce the number of physical copies of an album in circulation ahead of its release.

Richard Cottrell, senior VP of content protection for EMI Music, says that the deal with Interoute is one of many preventative measures the company has been taking to protect its pre-release music.

EMI Music is currently experimenting with the technology in the United Kingdom and Germany.
