German authors rights society GEMA is to celebrate the 75th birthday of its chairman Reinhold Kreile with a function at the Emperor's Hall of Munich Residence on Nov. 30. Kreile's birthday is the following day.

Senior representatives of the European and German authors societies, and members of the culture, business and political sectors are expected to attend.

Kreile has been head of GEMA for 15 years. Under his leadership, the organization has steadily increased its income to the record figure of more than €813.61 million ($989.76 million) in 2003.

GEMA, which formed Jan. 14, 1903, was the first authors' rights society in Germany to be formed as a legal and financial entity. Today, it counts about 60,000 members, including composers, lyricists, and music publishers.
