Regional Mexican Tour Slated For February

Inaugural run to cover 20 cities.

The Gira Nueva Generación (New Generation Tour) 2005, a new tour aimed toward a younger and more diverse regional Mexican audience, will kick off Feb. 25 in Oakland, Calif.

The tour, which will feature performances by A.B. Quintanilla and Kumbia Kings, Alicia Villarreal, Joan Sebastian, Rogelio Martínez, Pablo Montero and Univision TV host Sissi, will hit 20 cities with the final April 24 date in Sacramento, Calif.

All six acts will perform at each of the stops, with concerts scheduled for mid-sized venues and arenas.

"The notion was to find diverse talents who could reach different audiences," says L.A.-based entertainment/marketing firm CEO Guillermo Rosas, whose company booked the tour. "It's regional Mexican music but with innovative elements."

Tradition will come with veteran act Joan Sebastian, who will perform a grand finale with all featured artists in each show.

A local radio contest will take place at each stop, with a performance by each winner in his or her respective city. The final winner, to be chosen at the tour's end, will score a record deal with an as-yet-to-be-determined label.

The artist's album will be produced by Kumbia Kings’ Quintanilla and Cruz Martínez, and feature songs written by Sebastian.
